23 Tables

I actually didn’t intend to play, but I was waiting for someone at the Orleans early on a Saturday morning and decided to drop by the Poker Room.Being about 10am, there were only 2 tables going. One was 2/4 Bingo, the other was 4/8 Bingo.

The only available spot was 2/4 Bingo. What the hell maybe I would get lucky and hit the draw enough times to make money (I didn’t).

First, the room is very big, and it is nice enough and has what you would expect. Good quality chairs, tables, TV’s, etc. The pseudo-thonged waitresses took orders often, they were friendly, and the room was comfortable.

But …. I did not enjoy the session.

First, the 2/4 game itself is completely insane and pointless. Especially with players whom I could only describe as looser than Madonna’s twat. I had pocket A’s and K’s both cracked because a “raise to $4″ doesn’t scare anybody, and there were 9 people to the flop on every hand (me, being the notable exception). In 2/4, you always have pot odds. Even with a pair of 2’s. Everyone shoves their money in, and whoever draws out wins. Everybody wins about 1 in 10 times, and this allows them to simply recycle the same cash amongst themselves. It’s a social game of luck designed to kill time. It is what it is.

Okay, so that is not really a comment on the poker room, but a comment on the silliness of calling 2/4 Limit “Poker”. They should stick it in the Bingo Room and be done with it.

But I digress …

That is not why I will never go back to the Orleans under any circumstances whatsoever.

This is:

There was a nice, middle-aged handicapped gentleman sitting to my right, and two places to his right sat a woman.

We had just finished a hand, which the woman won, and some guy on my left said something along the lines of “damn, she’s lucky”. Nothing bad at all.

The lady then turned to the gentleman on my right, who had said nothing, and screamed “Don’t call me a bitch!”. Everyone looked at her in stunned silence. The man said “I didn’t say anything to you” and she said “I heard what you said to me”.

The dealer, not knowing what to do, called the floor person over.

The floor person arrived, the lady pointed to the man at my right and said “That guy called me a bad name”. The entire rest of the table protested and told the floor that he did not say anything at all, and the man defended himself in kind by telling the floor that he had said nothing.

Here is where it gets weird. The floor man proceeds to rip into the man on my right, and tell him that if he says another word, that he will be escorted out of the casino by security (remember, this player is handicapped and could be easily harmed by any type of force) and banned from the casino.

We were all shocked. When I spoke up in defense of the man, the floor said “And that goes for all of you, if anyone has another word to say about it, then get out of my room!”.

The victim (man to my right) proceeded to gather his chips and leave, declared that he would never be back, and I did the same. As I was cashing out, I saw several other people getting up too. The lady just sat there with a satisfied look on her face. What …. the ….. fuck?

This lady made a completely bogus allegation, and I have never, ever in my life seen management react so poorly and unfairly to a situation in my life. I swear I thought that I was in a back-room Brooklyn card game. Threatening the customer (and entire table) for simply defending someone against an erroneous accusation is unacceptable.

I don’t have any explanation for his behavior. Maybe the manager was secretly banging the lady in question, I have no way of knowing, but if that is the case then the guy is nailing a kook because she hears voices in her head.

As far as I am concerned, let that lady be their only customer. Maybe she can break up some more games. They get a pretty decent rake in those 2/4 games with everyone going to the river, and for them to chase off a table full of $40+ pots on every hand when there are only 2 tables running is just plain nuttier than a squirrel’s turd.

There are just too many poker rooms in Las Vegas, and you just can’t do that to people. This is not an Indian Reservation that’s the only game in town. You run a room like that here, and people will go down the street to the competition.

Now, to be fair, this is the only time I have played the Orleans, and I have heard good things about it from others.

It is not fair to judge an entire room by one manager who may have been having a really bad day. That may have been an extreme situation that will never recur.

But, that was indeed my personal experience, and it will keep me from going back in the near future. As they say, you have to vote with your dollars.

And in Vegas, that’s not hard. There is always another casino, and I hope the gentleman that was sitting next to me found one that treated him with a little more respect.
