Comments:
The Monte Carlo Poker room is a decent room, but I personally find it a little bit spooky.
They kind of designed it after an art gallery. An old art gallery. You walk in, and there are 8 foot tall victorian-esque paintings hanging on every wall, and the room is dimly lit. If the game “Clue” had a Poker Room, I would imagine it would look something like the Monte Carlo. “The Butler in the Poker Room with a Candlestick did it!”
It’s all personal preference of course, but it was a little disconcerting for me.
The tables, chairs, dealers, and waitresses are standard, nothing superlative, nor anything lacking. Actually, the table seem a bit old and worn (which goes with the “old” theme of the room). It’s not that bad, but it is noticeable.
The tables also have racetracks, which I hate, but some people love.
There doesn’t seem to be many locals in the room, and when I was there, I was seated at a table full of bluff-loving tourists. In fact, the last hand I witnessed is one in which a tourist pushed all-in ($120) with pocket 4’s. Only to be called by someone with A-K suited. In case you were wondering, the pocket 4’s held up. This was a typical scenario.
A good grinder could pay for the airfare to Vegas at this room assuming the odds held up. I witnessed at least one attempted bluff on every hand. Sit back, be patient, and wait for the monster. You should be able to bank here.
They have no electronic list management, and everything is done on paper. Although, to their credit, the folks who run the papers lists are very polite.
They will not swipe your MGM players card, because as the podium guy told me “We haven’t joined the 21st Century yet”.
I don’t think I could put it better myself.
