Hey, it’s the Mirage. It’s hard to review an icon. Everybody knows the storied history of the Mirage Poker Room and it’s almost single-handed feat of making Texas Hold ‘Em a staple on the Las Vegas Strip.

It’s one of the originals.

Is it still the best? Probably not. The Venetian is more opulent, the MGM is more modern … no matter what your taste, there is probably at least one room that has the Mirage beat.

But come on, it’s the fucking Mirage.

Everyone who has ever seen the movie “Rounders” (and you know you have) has to play the Mirage.

The Mirage is a little long in the tooth, it’s showing it’s age a bit, and the clientele are a little older than in most rooms. There are some damn good players here and you just have to hope you get seated at a table full of tourists, because if not, you’re screwed. The odds of getting a tourist table are (obviously) better on the weekends.

Despite it’s age, everything is as it should be. Everybody is super-competent from the podium, to the floor, to the dealers. No noobs fresh out of dealer school here. And the staff doesn’t take shit. They have all been around this game longer than you have, and they will let you know this if you cop an attitude after your 5th Budweiser.

While I am not a regular, I still drop by this venerable room at least once in a while.

Why? Because it’s the Mirage.
