We finally decided to try the infamous Circus Circus Buffet. I know, it’s Saturday evening, not the best timing but hey. We took our daughters to the Adventuredome Theme Park and figured while there, why not. We began standing in line around 4pm, and there were many hungry people there already. Dinner began at 4:30pm. I never imagined that so many people would be willing to wait so long for this buffet. We’ve been to many others, better than this one, that did not have any line to wait in whatsoever. We waited patiently as the lines (there were 3) grew longer and noisier. This was by far the noisiest line we have waited in to get into a buffet. Kids (not ours, at least not crying and screaming) were screaming, whining, and crying. Just perfect. We were determined to try this buffet, no matter what. As my husband said, “We need to bite the bullet some time.” and this was the time. Well, after waiting a long, long, long time. Knowing we were in for a bad experience, obviously we had no expectations whatsoever. We were finally seated around 4:45pm. We felt like cattle being gathered for the slaughter. The dining area was fairly roomy but dim. We cleaned our hands with the antibacterial soup dispenser provided at the entrance (there were at least 3), which we felt was very thoughtful and convenient. They should have these at every buffet/restaurant. Anyway, everyone rushed toward the food, hot station first. They had the basics, mashed potatoes, fried and rotisserie chicken, steamed veggies, pasta, some Chinese and Mexican food, rice, bread rolls, soup, and turkey and roast beef at the carving station. They had this set up repeated 3 times to keep the lines from getting too long (didn’t help much). The best of the worst was the Mexican tortilla roll thing with melted cheese. They had a small salad station, not really worth mentioning. I thought their beverage station was a good idea, especially for such large impatient crowds. You can basically serve yourself any beverage available, which they had covered pretty well. The dessert station was decent also, with soft serve ice cream, cookies, various fruit pies, chocolate cakes, cheese cake, banana cream pie, muffins, and fruits. We ate mostly dessert for dinner, mainly b/c the hot food station lines were just too long, it wasn’t worth waiting in more than once. Boy, these patrons were starving, at this point anything would do. Two things I was pleasantly surprised with were, ample paper napkins provided and quick pick up of empty plates. They obviously had these things perfected, at least for tonight. Overall, I had to give it half an apple rather than a lemon because of the service and the food just wasn’t as bad as I had expected. I’ve read and heard such horror stories, that I thought everyone there would be puking all over the place or something. We won’t be returning here, ever, but if you are already in the hotel and just can’t or don’t feel like going out to another buffet, try it, it actually won’t kill you.

On a side note, getting a cab from Circus Circus was a nightmare. We gave up, crossed the street, went to Riviera, which was actually worse, returned to Circus Circus and finally got a cab about 40 minutes later. It might have been our timing, I don’t know, but even the cabbie admitted that they don’t like picking up at these hotels.
