The Star Trek Experience officially closed yesterday, and I went over yesterday afternoon to check it out one last time.
Some TV crews were there, some cast members were signing merchandise, Quarks was crowded, and they had “goodbye letters” tacked to the walls.
There was a large, gold curtain on the ceiling … waiting to be draped over the attraction as it begins disassembly.
I did one final walk-through of the free area, and talked to some of the folks there.
Nobody seemed despondent or overly-depressed. They were actually kind of jovial. My guess is that the whole thing had already sunk in, and people were more or less enjoying what was left of the place.
It’s not the death of Star Trek, just this particular attraction.
It will be very weird to walk out of the Hilton Monorail station and not see the STE there.
It’s no Stardust, but I’m sure people will miss the place.
What remains to be seen is whether or not they will keep the “Space Casino” immediately outside of Star Trek.
It’s not officially a Star Trek casino, but the theme is obviously modeled after the whole Star Trek/Star Wars vibe.
I guess time will tell.
Anyway, RIP Star Trek Experience.
I sure as hell hope they don’t stick a BLT Burger in there.
