Echelon Place … One Last Drive-By
One last drive around Echelon Place on all three available sides.
It’s going to look like this for awhile. Maybe they’ll throw a tarp over it or something, but it won’t get any larger any time soon.
The city is almost in a semi state of disbelief.
Stories of hardship, and hardship to come are already making the rounds on the local news.
This isn’t a sleepy little town in the middle of the desert with a few fancy casinos anymore. It’s a medium-sized metropolis of 2 million people. Probably too large to still be so utterly dependent on only a few corporate CEOs.
Something which is fairly unique to a city the size of Las Vegas, is that the decisions of one or two individuals have the power to destabilize the entire city. We’re a one trick town … with only a few magicians.
That’s why those few people wielding inordinate amounts of power have to make good decisions. If they don’t, they could literally bring an entire metropolitan area to its knees. It’s like these guys are playing a real life version of “Sim City”, and they are losing badly.
Las Vegas desperately needs more industries, as the one we have now is not terribly stable, and there is little to no diversification.
This single property stall (if not demise, it is yet to be seen) will probably have a sizable adverse effect on the town, not only financially, but psychologically as well.
Anyway, what’s done is done. Hopefully they really will start it back up next year.
At least we have finally figured out what the new theme for the Las Vegas Strip will be: “Detroit in the Desert”
