Fireworks From Las Vegas

posted in Las Vegas |

The 4th of July in Las Vegas is not that big of a deal on The Strip itself. As a matter of fact, most of The Strip hotels do absolutely nothing. The “official” Las Vegas fireworks program is saved for New Year’s Eve.

There is no centralized fireworks display in Las Vegas like there is in most other major cities. You just have to pick a neighborhood, and go to it … and they are all more or less the same.

Communities all across the Las Vegas Valley launch local fireworks displays.

Sort of like hanging out on Mulholland in LA, just looking out over this town during the 4th is kind of cool, because you see fireworks everywhere on the horizon … and most of the time, you have absolutely no idea from what neighborhood they are being launched. You just point and say “there’s one, there’s one, there’s one”.

From about 7:30pm - 11pm, a scan of the horizon will reveal at least 5-10 shows going off at any given time.

When it is clear, you can typically see 40 miles+ in any direction. I can actually see mountains in Arizona and California from where I am typing this.

If something happens in Vegas, and you can get 20 feet in the air or higher, chances are that you will see it … even if it is 25 miles away.

It is fairly unique to the town.

I got up close and personal with the Las Vegas Country Club and Las Vegas Hilton displays, and then I did a quick scan of the horizon afterwards.

I put some of the highlights in the video above.

It’s cooling down to a frigid 107 this weekend, so there should be some welcome relief for us locals.

It is also good tourist weather.

Again, it doesn’t appear that there are quite as many people as a usual long weekend, but everyone who is here appears to be enjoying themselves.

Even though the economy sucks, and airfare is ridiculous, there are some great room deals to be had. (note to self: Join lucrative affiliate marketing program so that I can get kickbacks by shamelessly linking the phrase “great room deals”)

Have a great weekend everyone.
