We’re Number 2! We’re Number 2!

Stolen Car

We may have the worst drivers.

We may have the fattest people.

But don’t dare let it be said that we have the highest rate of auto theft in the nation.

No sir, not us, we will only stoop so low.

That shit was soooo 2006.

We’ve made huge strides and improvements since those days of anarchy.

We have put our foot down, reigned in the problem, and now solidly rank #2.

So for all of you out there that say that Vegas is not a safe town …. bite me.

Some other city is actually worse than Las Vegas in some small aspect, and for that, we take great civic pride.

A new ranking of per-capita vehicle thefts has San Diego in third place last year, leaping from 11th place in 2006, the National Insurance Crime Bureau reports.

San Diego is among four California cities in the top five.

The list drops Las Vegas from the top spot it held in 2006, to second in 2007.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau report puts Las Vegas with four California cities on the list of the top five auto thefts per capita.

Modesto now tops the list, with the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos area third, followed by Stockton and the San Francisco-Oakland area. San Diego was eighth in 2005 and 11th a year later. In 2007, the study states, 943.71 cars per 100,000 residents were reported stolen. That’s up from 906.67 the year before.

By contrast, Modesto experienced 1,047.99 thefts per 100,000 residents in 2007, up slightly from 2006 when it was ranked fifth. In 2005, Modesto was also in the top position, with 1,411.14 thefts per 100,000.

The report says Nevada’s Clark County had 1,036 vehicles stolen per 100,000 residents last year, down from 1,261 in 2006.

New Slogan:  “Las Vegas, making Detroit look better one statistic at a time!”
