Whores at The Excalibur

Las Vegas Excalibur Hotel and Casino

Kids sure are starting young these days.

There are several helicopters of the news variety currently hanging over The Strip in the Encore/Wynn/Harrah’s/Mirage area.

I flipped on the scanner to see what’s happening, and didn’t hear anything unusual.

Incidentally, two cops were dispatched to the Excalibur for a “Trespassing” charge.

A couple of seconds later, the dispatcher clarified “Two females soliciting prostitution”.

Ooooooof.

I’m glad the scanner doesn’t include visuals.

It’s a rough night for whores city-wide when you have to resort to working the X.

No Lights and Helicopters

Encore Las Vegas

I’m not sure what the helicopters over The Strip are about (I don’t think it’s anything), but there is one hovering above the Encore at present … and the lights at the Encore are not illuminated tonight.

It’s not really worthy of notice, I just tend to observe things in my immediate surroundings that are out of the ordinary.

And at this point, the lack of lights on the Encore is out of the ordinary.

I DON’T LIKE CHANGE DAMMIT!

Light it back up so I know all is well.

I Guess They Will Happen

The VegasRex Awards

Given our audience, the preliminary voting/question nomination was actually more positive than I had anticipated.

The flood of votes were kind of overwhelming, and it took a long time to filter them through a script and actually read them.

They are still coming in, but we are just going to use what we have now. This could potentially go on forever.

We only counted the first vote from each unique IP address.

84% of you first-voted “Yes”, and most suggested categories … and some were really good and many of them will be included.

Coming in second was not “No”, but “Go to Hell” at a nice, round 10%. Simple “No’s” came in at a meager 6%, although some people from the same IP voted “No” numerous times from the same IP. A few people really, really, really don’t want to see this thing happen.

“No” would have been a higher percentage if ballot-stuffing were counted, but we kind of got the point on the first vote.

Some people actually voted “Yes” or “No”, then voted a second time simply to tell me to go to hell. Some voted, and simply typed “Go to hell” in the comment box.

Then, there was the one person who kept hitting “back” and told me to go to hell no less than 108 times before finally giving up.

Uh, thanks?

You guys are far too kind.

Some people were confused: “I thought this was the poll. Don’t fuck it up with more questions.”

Some were hostile: “I don’t give a rats ass what others think of where I sleep and eat.”

Some were ambivalent: “The fuck if I know. Just make some up.”

Some were backhandedly complimentary: “I don’t need a stinking awards show, jackass. But if you did do it, it probably wouldn’t suck.” (This person voted “Go to Hell”)

Some were poignant: “Why give out free publicity?”

Some were what we expected:

“Best places to buy pot as a tourist”

“Buffet most likely to kill children, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems”

“Best lobby bar to solicit a prostitute.”

“Who would you rather kick in the nuts?

A. Pornslappers

B. Timeshare salesperson

C. Gary Loveman (Harrah’s CEO)

D. Oscar Goodman”

“Least Sausage-filled Pool”

“Best mexican in town (food, not whores)”

“Easiest place to get your ass run over if you jaywalk. “

Some were just weird:

“Which one of Vegas Rex’s nuts is the smallest—the left or right one?”

“Best place to drink and screw goats.”

Some had an axe to grind:

“Whom is the biggest foul-mouthed back stabbing crack whore slut that works for (local business name deleted) ….

Some I had never thought of, but are great ideas:

“Worst tourist FROM place… ie: Texas, Mexico, or Europe”

“Most/worst smoke filled casino”

“Best Hotel to spot a “douchebag”

Most of them mentioned things that are common “Favorite Buffet”, “Favorite Poker Room”, etc.

Anyway, most people (8/10ths ) are kind of into it, and took the time to submit some really good questions.

I’ll anonymize the questions, and have some people go through them to match up the most common ones, or ones with similar wording that can be made into one question.

We’ll put them up in about a week or two, and have the results ready by mid-June in time for “The Meet” (a/k/a “GMM”,”Meeting of people from the VegasRex Site”, “The Foo Fuckers”, “Huddy’s Playhouse”), or whatever we end up calling these quarterly in-Vegas meetings organized in the forums.

We will also engrave a personalized virtual trophy (pictured above) to all “winners”. You’ll own it outright and can use it for whatever you want. You can use the graphic on your site, discard the graphic, point at the graphic and laugh while spanking your monkey with lime Jello lube … whatever.

So, look for the ballot in a couple of weeks.

P.S. No, YOU go to hell!

A Grim Reminder of The Nightmare That Was

New Frontier Sign After Implosion

Cruising down Industrial (I refuse to ever call the road by any other name), I hadn’t realized that they had left standing a reminder of the nightmare that used to be.

I had assumed that it had been relegated to the Neon Boneyard already.

But scouring the property, I have to say that even to this day, the New Frontier has never looked better.

I don’t know if this lot will ever see anything again in the near future.

The Israeli group that plans to build “The Plaza” complex on this very parcel of land is going to wait out the economic downturn to commence construction.

When will the said economic downturn end?

Maybe tomorrow, maybe never.

Maybe they will sell the land, and “The Plaza” will never see the light of day. If they were taking odds, I would take the money line that the “The Plaza”, as initially designed, will not get built.

I imagine the line would be set at just about even.

But, who knows …

What’s important is that the New Frontier is gone.

I did find the juxtaposition of old (dead?) and new mildly interesting, so I took a couple of shots over what used to be the New Frontier.

The Hard Rock Stays Competitive

Hard Rock Las Vegas Constructions

Off-Strip properties have decided that they want to look just as hideously ugly as their Strip counterparts.

The cranes for the Hard Rock’s new construction have gone up, and the assification of the Las Vegas skyline is now nearly complete.

The Rio is going to need to erect some unsightly steel beams just to stay competitive.

Lest you think the Hard Rock is stealing The Strip’s thunder … fear not.

It still looks like shit too.
