The Palazzo Grand Opening press release said:
Launching with a spectacular music, fireworks and light show and culminating with a concert headlined by Diana Ross, The Palazzo Las Vegas — the new $1.9 billion luxury resort from Las Vegas Sands Corp. -celebrated its grand opening this past weekend with a star-studded series of special events. Celebrities, VIP guests and media from around the country joined Las Vegas Sands executives for the historic occasion as the first new resort on the Las Vegas strip in nearly three years officially opened.
To be honest, It was the shortest fireworks show I have ever seen in my life.
I actually got to see the Palazzo fireworks and light show, but only caught the last 10 seconds of it on video (above).
At 5:30pm I heard boom, boom, boom … looked out the window, and saw some bursts going off over the Palazzo. Then some lasers started scanning the sky, but were obstructed by low clouds.
I quickly grabbed my camera, pointed it out the window, and they stopped by the time I got the lens focused.
I assumed they were practice shots to test for wind. I called someone at the Venetian, and they said “Nope, that was the show”.
15-30 seconds. Tops. I kid you not.
The video is of the aftermath where smoke is coming off the top, but that was the shortest fireworks show I have ever seen.
I have fifty cent 4th of July sparklers that last longer than that. My guess is that the wind caused them to scale down the firework display, but that is only a guess.
What I did see was nice, just very short.
Anyway, the Palazzo is now open … the same as it was back in late December … but this time it’s “official”.
What does this mean?
It means nothing. If you lost in the casino last week, you aren’t getting your money back because you were playing in an “unofficial” casino.
It makes for a great press release, though.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce the official opening of VegasRex.com
If you thought we sucked before … just wait for 2008.
Seriously, The Palazzo is a very nice property, and I think it will be a great success. Until “The Waitress Incident“, I have always been a big fan of the Venetian, and I hope this addition is lucrative for the property.
