Crowded Skies, Aborted Landings, and Strip Night Shots

I’m not sure what was going on last night, but for a Wednesday, there seemed to be far more takeoffs and landings at McCarran than I am used to seeing on a weeknight.
Just about every 30 seconds, they came thundering overhead.
I took my camera out to take a couple of night shots of The Strip, and as soon as I stepped out I saw an airplane (above) abort a landing. Aborted landings are fairly rare, so it really was pretty strange that it happened as soon as I looked over.
When I heard the pilot spool the engines up to climb, I saw another plane taking off from the same runway.
Apparently he felt it was a little too close for comfort.
I watched this plane circle the airport and eventually come in for a perfect landing, so all is well that ends well …
As for the night shots, I was screwing around with some long exposure camera settings, but here are a couple of shots, I will try to find some better ones later.

The Hard Rock always comes out blurry on long exposures due to the rotating lights.

I caught an airplane going over the Mandalay on a 15 second exposure.

I’m still screwing around with the features on this new camera.
Someone mentioned that we had tons of day shots, but very few night shots.
We’ll eventually remedy that.
