Prince Leaving Las Vegas - Update

posted in Las Vegas |

PrinceMany of you read this article:

http://www.vegasrex.com/2007/02/24/prince-is-leaving-las-vegas/

And wrote to me about having problems getting tickets for the month of March.

So, here is what I know …

I dropped by the Rio Box Office today to purchase tickets for myself for this Friday’s show (March 2, 2007).

I whipped out my credit card, and it went down like this:

Me: “Prince, March 2nd please.”

Her (Box Office Employee): “I’m sorry, Prince is not playing this weekend.”

Me: “Okay, next Prince show.”

Her: “I’m sorry, I don’t know when that will be.”

Me: “What do you mean you don’t know when that will be? You work here.”

Her: “I’m sorry, but I just don’t have that information.”

Me: “So, is the show over completely?”

Her: “Not to my knowledge, we have been instructed that it is an ongoing show.”

Me: “So Prince will still be playing, right?”

Her: (repeating herself) “We have been told that his show is ongoing.”

Me: “But you can’t sell me a ticket?”

Her: “Not at this time.”

Me: “Is there anybody I can speak to that will know when I will be able to buy a ticket.”

Her: “I’m afraid that nobody knows at this time.”

UPDATE: Five Hundy just wrote and noted that tickets just went back on sale for the 9th - 31st. Don’t ask me how, don’t ask me why. They just did.

If you want tickets, get them, and get them quick.

    Vegasrex,

Although it technically means nothing, Ticketmaster had taken the 3121 page down several days ago. Well, it popped back up today….no tickets are available, but it is up nontheless. Maybe slightly encouraging. Thought you might want to monitor it.

    Thank, Titan.

I’ll be much more optimistic if they remove the:

“We currently do not have any tickets on sale for Prince : Live In Concert At 3121.”

This illustrates the problem. Harrah’s refuses to say it’s over, so everyone is standing around scratching their heads wondering why they can’t buy tickets. Even Ticketbastard is perplexed. (one bright spot in all of this is that Ticketbastard is being screwed with).

Prince/Harrah’s/Somebody in the front office needs to just come out and tell everyone what the deal is.

I have not been a fan of THE PRINCE- I have always found him to be a pretentious little man. The fact that he is playing this game with the hotel doesn’t surprise me at all.

I went to the Feb 24th show, which may become his historic last show. Besides it being a delight to have had the chance to see him in this unique venue I could tell that he was generally bored. I was looking forward to 2+ hrs of improvisation, covers, and hits but he just played his oldies, giving the fans what they wanted for under 1.5 hrs.

Yes he was fantastic and a complete showman, but he is to smart for the Super Bowl set which seemed to have populated the crowd.

Remember he is an artist, this was a limited performance, consider yourself lucky if you had the chance to see him. I know I’ll see him again when he ventures on his world tour!

    Thanks Five Hundy.

I just checked Ticketbastard after reading your post and they suddenly put March tickets back on sale from the 9th through the 31st. I guess that makes 8 more shows instead of 10.

So what happened? Lawyers? Threats of lawyers?

Ah, who the fuck cares … I’m going to see another show.

    Good looking out.

    Thanks!

P.S. Did you get them from the box office of from Ticketnadsters?

    Ticketbastards.

None of this ridiculous last-minute B.S. surprises me anymore. Prince has been operating with little regard for his fans for years.

As much as I enjoy him as a performer, that sentence is damn hard to argue with.

If anyone is interested in getting tickets to the show on the 31st (his likely last show), I would recommend getting the quickly. I booked the VIP dinner deal and they said that the 31st tickets were going really fast. Just an FYI.

What???? I am coming to Las Vegas from New Zealand and was just about wetting myself at the thought of seeing Prince in his little club setting, doing his fruity little jamming/chatting/”don’t hate me ‘cos I’m fabulous” thing and-and-and THIS is what I read? No more gigs? Sob. Say it isn’t so…

Did Prince play this past weekend (3/3 and 3/4)? I was in Vegas but too wiped out to even think about going either night.

I don’t think he played last weekend. If anyone is planning to see any of the final Prince performances at Rio but hasn’t already purchased tickets yet, I’ve got some bad news. The rates for all of the March shows have been bumped up to $250/ticket.

    Fuck!

Well, this will mean one of a several things:

    1) Smaller Crowds

    2) Much Smaller Crowds

    3) The Riff-Raff will be kept out (ie. People who think mosh pits are appropriate for Prince concerts)

    4) Bigger Show/Longer Show/Better Show/Special Guest Stars (Morris Day and The Time anyone?)

    5) The damn thing starts on time

    6) None of the above, it just costs more.

Five Hundy, not to get all up in your bidness, but did you purchase your tickets when they were still $125, or did you get the two fitty tickets?

Of course, this could also simply be the law of supply and demand at work as everyone and their cow clamors to get last-show tickets … meaning all the crowds at twice the price.

If I had not already seen the show a couple of times, I would pay $250 to see it.

Having already seen it, I’m not so sure.

It’s worth it once or twice, but if I go again, it will be pushing 1 large …. and it’s hard to justify dropping nearly $1,000 in Prince tickets in 3 months. I like the guy, and it’s a great show, but I want to have some cheese left over for the summer concert schedule coming up. I am going to see Tool at the Pearl Theater, and the MGM and Mandalay and Hard Rock should be announcing performers in the coming six weeks.

I’d love to see Prince again, but I have to diversify.

If any of you go, please tell us how the show is.

If it’s better or dramatically different, I may spring for it. If it’s the same show for more money, I may have to live vicariously through those of you with the bread to drop in 3121 this month.

P.S. He didn’t perform last weekend, supposedly because he was attending the NAACP Image Awards. I didn’t watch the awards so I don’t know for sure, but he definitely wasn’t here last weekend. That’s the show I tried to buy tickets for, but couldn’t.

If you pay for the dinner and the reserved tickets, can you avoid some of the sitting around? Say play the tables till 11+ then slide in. Can’t wait to see him, but worried that my date will flip out waiting for 2.5 hrs!
